چکیده

The Transverse Momentum Discriminator Module (PTDM) is one of the three main modules used in the Level 1 Charged Particle Trigger System of the BABAR Detector at PEP-II. It provides trigger decisions for charged particles with a transverse momentum, Pt, greater than a configurable threshold. The transverse momentum discrimination algorithm works by evaluating the curvature of the charged tracks in the 1.5 T axial magnetic field. The capabilities of the PTDM are key to a stable and efficient operation of the BABAR experiment even under severe background conditions. A sharp threshold behavior with an efficiency rise from 10% to 90% within 30 MeV=c at 600 MeV=c is achieved by using track segment information with very good spatial resolution (0.7 mm). This resolution is obtained by using the drift time information from the drift chamber. In this paper the design and implementation of the PTDM are described.

Design and Performance of the Level 1 Calorimeter Trigger for the BaBar Detector

Since May 1999 the BaBar detector has been taking data at the PEP-II asymmetric electron-positron collider at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, California. This experiment requires a very large data sample and the PEP-II accelerator uses intense beams to deliver the high collision rates needed. This poses a severe challenge to the BaBar trigger system, which must reject the large rate of ...

BaBar Level-1 Drift Chamber Trigger Upgrade

submitted to the Xth VCI 2004 30 November 2003 This BaBar L1 DCT upgrade is essential for improving L1 trigger background rejection in preparation for the expected increase in PEP-II luminosity. A large fraction of the current L1 trigger background come from interactions of beam particles with beam line components at ∼ ±20 cm from the interaction point (IP), along the beam direction (z axis). T...

A Binary Link Tracker for the B A B AR Level 1 Trigger System 1

The BABAR detector at PEP-II will operate in a highluminosity e+e collider environment near the (4S) resonance with the primary goal of studying CP violation in the B meson system. In this environment, typical physics events of interest involve multiple charged particles. These events are identified by counting these tracks in a fast first level (Level 1) trigger system, by reconstructing the t...

Online Track Reconstruction and Level 2 Triggering in NA48

The level 2 trigger on charged particles (L2C) of the NA48 experiment features powerful capabilities for implementing complex triggering algorithms in real-time software. These algorithms may involve track reconstruction, vertex, invariant mass or transverse momentum computation, etc. After a brief outline of the L2C architecture, this paper describes the salient features of the I/O and process...

Events with Isolated Leptons and Missing Transverse Momentum in ep Collisions at HERA

A search for events containing isolated electrons or muons and missing transverse momentum has been performed on the complete HERA I ep data set, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 104.7 pb−1. The main Standard Model process expected to contribute to such events is the production of real W bosons with subsequent leptonic decay, with a small further contribution from Z◦ production. A s...
